Best and Worst First Dance Songs

Best and Worst First Dance Songs of 2014

Here are our top 5 best and worst first dance songs which were in the UK top 40 in 2014!

The BEST of 2014

Unconditionally – Katy Perry

“Come just as you are to me/Don’t need apologies/Know that you are worthy”

With a chorus of “Unconditional, unconditionally, I will love you unconditionally” it is easy to see why this would make her perfect first dance track!

Real Love – Tom Odell

“Don’t need to be alone/It’s real love/It’s real,/It’s real love”

This one is perfect for anyone who doesn’t really like dancing (it’s only 2mins15 long!) this lovely little cover from the John Lewis advert is bound to bring a smile to people’s faces!

All of Me – John Legend

‘”Cause all of me/Loves all of you/Love your curves and all your edges/All your perfect imperfections”

According to Spotify, this is one of the top 10 most popular wedding songs already and it’s easy to see why – every girl would dream of having this song written about them!

How Long Will I Love You – Ellie Goulding

“How long will I love you?/As long as stars are above you/And longer, if I can.”

This pared down version of The Waterboys’ classic is a perfectly romantic slow dance with absolutely beautiful lyrics.

Thinking Out Loud – Ed Sheeran

“And I’m thinking ’bout how people fall in love in mysterious ways/Maybe just the touch of a hand/Well, me—I fall in love with you every single day/And I just wanna tell you I am”

A song about loving someone at every age, this whole song is just incredibly beautiful and romantic and can’t help but make you feel soppy.

And the Worst…

Taylor Swift – Blank Space

“So it’s gonna be forever/Or it’s gonna go down in flames/You can tell me when it’s over/If the high was worth the pain”

Oh Taylor. Known for her string of unsuccessful relationships, this song mocking her own reputation is probably not right for the day. As much as we love her.

Not The Only One – Sam Smith

“You and me, we made a vow/For better or for worse/I can’t believe you let me down”

Any mention of breaking wedding vows and infidelity is definitely not the right song for you on your wedding day.

Black Widow – Iggy Azalea ft Rita Ora

“You used to be thirsty for me/But now you wanna be set free”

Widow?

Let Her Go – Passenger

“Staring at the ceiling in the dark/Same old empty feeling in your heart/’Cause love comes slow and it goes so fast”

This is a very lovely, poignant song but it’s more likely to bring tears of sadness than tears of joy. We don’t want that.

Blurred Lines – Robin Thicke

“I know you want it/But you’re a good girl/The way you grab me/Must wanna get nasty/Go ahead, get at me”

Probably the most controversial song to be released in 2013, and even if it is still hitting the top 40 in 2014 it definitely has no place at a romantic event!
